Alpha Estate Chardonnay Single Block "Tramonto" 2020 from PGI Florina in Macedonia – a Greek Chardonnay that has improved SO much since earlier tastings. This wine is one of my clear favorites among Greek Chardonnays from the 2020 vintage, alongside the Plagios White 2020 from Ktima Biblia Chora, which had always had the edge in previous tastings, scoring around 93 to 94 points. Interestingly, this time the Tramonto could compete head-to-head with the Plagios. The oak is now perfectly integrated, and it has become a truly delicious wine that now deserves 94 points. For context, the Ktima Katsarou Stella is in a different league among Greek Chardonnays, but it's unfortunately hard to get in Germany, whereas both the Tramonto and the Plagios are easily available. This once again demonstrates that these wines are sold way too young most of the time in Greek restaurants – patience really pays off here.
