Ktima Gerovassiliou — Chardonnay 2020

PGI Epanomi
100% Chardonnay
Macedonia, Greece
White | dry
13.5%

The Chardonnay from Ktima Gerovassiliou is considered one of the benchmark examples of the variety in Greece and hails from the PGI Epanomi. This wine once earned Evangelos Gerovassiliou the title of King of Chardonnay – it was one of the first Greek Chardonnays to turn heads internationally. The oak notes are reminiscent of the Chardonnay Tramonto from Alpha Estate, with vanilla clearly taking center stage. Unlike more citrus-driven expressions, yellow stone fruit dominates here, especially mirabelle plums. The wine's great strength lies in its creaminess, which is attributable to the oak aging and lees contact rather than the moderate 13.5% alcohol. At the same time, it has phenomenal drinkability. It doesn't quite reach the complexity of truly great Burgundy, but it's already damn delicious and drinks so well that it will satisfy a wide range of wine lovers at the table. An outstanding 93+ points – with more bottle age, this could go even higher.
