Ktima Kir-Yianni — Ble Alepou 2020

PGI Imathia
Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot
Macedonia, Greece
Red | dry
15%

The Ble Alepou 2020 ("Blue Fox") from Kir-Yianni is a six-variety blend from PGI Imathia in Macedonia, built around Bordeaux varieties — Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot, and Petit Verdot — plus Syrah. The exact proportions are not disclosed; Kir-Yianni deliberately adjusts the blend each vintage based on the quality of individual parcels. I tasted this alongside other Greek Bordeaux-style blends, including the Ktima Katsarou 2019 (a 70:30 Cabernet Sauvignon–Merlot blend that earned 94+ points and remains one of my favorite wines of that kind). The Blue Fox is quite a dense wine at 15% alcohol. Still rather closed on the nose and palate — it really needs air, and ideally a few more years in the cellar. But it's promising: there's lots of dark fruit lurking underneath, and the structure suggests real upward potential, earning it 92+ points. A good wine, though also quite pricey.
