Avantis Estate — Syrah Classic 2020

The Syrah Classic 2020 from Avantis Estate (PGI Evia), one of the most renowned Greek wineries when it comes to Syrah, was tasted as part of an extensive tasting of Greek Syrah reds. You can hardly get more prototypical Syrah than this: violet color, violets on the nose, blueberry and pepper on the palate. Plus a pretty hefty dose of tannin. Not the most complex wine out there, but quite a powerhouse at a still rather moderate 13.9% alcohol. The only caveat: some may find the finish a touch sweet, where clove also plays a prominent role. An excellent 91 points.
