Oenops — Limniona 2020
100% Limniona
Thessaly / Macedonia, Greece

12.8%
Oenops Wines Limniona 2020, made from 100% Limniona sourced from 30+ year-old vines in Karditsa, Thessaly, and vinified at the winery in Prosotsani, Drama. Classified as a Varietal Wine (without PGI/PDO designation) at 12.8% alcohol. Spontaneous fermentation in amphora and open-top barrels, aged 10 months on fine lees, unfiltered. Aromatically crystal-clear — a fascinating result of such "messy" production methods. This wine is similar in style to the Ktima Zafeirakis Limniona Terracotta 2020 (also amphora-fermented, also scoring 93 points), but even a little bit more vibrant. A magnificent wine that earns 93 points. This was tasted as part of a broader exploration of Limniona wines alongside three Zafeirakis bottlings from the same vintage: the Young Vineyards (90 points), the regular Limniona (92 points), and the Terracotta (93 points). One important observation: the amphora-aged wines — both this Oenops and the Zafeirakis Terracotta — did not retain their qualities as well as the purely oak-aged wines after a couple of days open. In Germany, the Oenops wines are available through Wine & Nature.
