I am not the biggest fan of the pink variety Roditis when produced as a white wine, but orange winemaking truly shows the potential of this grape. The Rawditis 2021 from Oenops Wines, made from 100% Roditis as an orange wine, certainly does justice to its playful name. Four weeks of skin contact results in a more yellow colour rather than deep orange. The wine is further shaped by six months of aging on the lees in amphora. In the nose, there is quite a bit of barnyard character. On the palate, there is even more of this, along with asparagus notes that emerge after swallowing. But it's all surprisingly really yummy! The great acidity and the very long aftertaste give these impressions a strong backbone, so that everything comes together very well. Like the Radito Active 2020 from Patistis Wines — another excellent orange Roditis that scored 91 points in the same tasting — the Rawditis proves that this variety has serious potential when given extended skin contact. An excellent wine that also earns 91 points.
