Domaine Costa Lazaridi — Merlot Rosé 2020
PGI Drama
Merlot
Macedonia, Greece
Rosé | dry
With its very gentle salmon hue, this rosé already stands out among comparable wines in Greece. Far more extraction is usually the norm there.
The Provence-style orientation is quite successful. A very lively and refreshing wine! Though this also means a hefty dose of residual CO2, which won't be everyone's cup of tea. On the nose, it's rather restrained — mainly red berries with traces of pear and rosewater. On the palate, refreshing acidity dominates. Green banana aromas join the mix. The finish leaves a very lovely salinity, accompanied by a herbal, slightly bitter note, though no specific aromas particularly stand out. A well-made rosé that deserves the rating very good and 89 points. It would certainly be welcome if this style gained more significance — and differentiation — in Greece.
