Domaine Costa Lazaridi – Amethystos Cava 2001

The Amethystos Cava 2001 from Domaine Costa Lazaridi is a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from PGI Drama in northern Greece – notably, later vintages of this cuvée switched to Cabernet Franc, but the 2001 is confirmed as pure Cabernet Sauvignon. At over two decades old, it has held up beautifully and tasted at least a decade younger: dried black cherry and cassis, cedar and cigar box, a hint of leather and forest floor, and those silky, fully resolved tannins that only come with real bottle time – but with a fresh spine still very much intact. A magnificent example of Greek Cabernet Sauvignon aging gracefully, earning 94 points.
