La Tour Melas — Silphium 2023

Grenache Noir, Syrah
Central Greece, Greece
Rosé | dry
13%

La Tour Melas Silphium 2023 is a Grenache Noir and Syrah rosé from Fthiotida in Central Greece, with 90% of the blend aged in amphora and 10% in barrels. This gives the wine a very complex structure. But the nice thing is that this does not come at the cost of aromas. To the contrary, it is very expressive on the nose, showcasing various exotic fruits. It is a wine that will please anybody at the table. Experienced wine drinkers will have a lot to ponder, while less experienced consumers won't be bewildered but will find a lot to simply enjoy. A wine that can age but can also just be drunk as it is right now. It's worth noting that the Silphium blend has historically been based on Grenache and Syrah (roughly 60/40), though La Tour Melas has been transitioning to a Fokiano-dominant blend with indigenous varieties for more recent releases — this 2023 still appears to follow the original recipe. We gave the 2021 vintage 93+ points two years after harvest. This one is already at 94 points and will stay there a long time.
