Ktima Tselepos Marmarias 2022, a single-vineyard Chardonnay from PGI Arcadia in the Peloponnese, comes across as almost Californian in style. Buttery and mouth-coating, the oak is already well integrated and balanced by sufficient acidity. At the moment, the vanilla from the oak diminishes the aftertaste to some extent, but this wine will become even better with time. As part of a broader exploration of Greek Chardonnays – including the Idisma Drios 2021 from Wine Art Estate and the Palpo 2022 from Kir-Yianni – the Marmarias stands out for its richness and ambition. I also tasted the Marmarias 2019 on a separate occasion, which showed some signs of age but revealed a round and balanced profile, especially on the second and third day after opening, earning a well-deserved 90 points. This 2022 vintage is a step up, earning 92+ points with clear upward potential as the oak settles further.
