Ktima Kalogri — Mister Helios 2020

The Mister Helios from Ktima Kalogri – one of the most tradition-steeped estates in the PDO Mantinia region – is classified as a PGI Arkadien wine and aromatically reaches far beyond the boundaries of its appellation. This spontaneously fermented organic wine is full of surprises: the nose right after opening isn't just lactic – it can only be described as downright 'cheesy.' On the palate, though, the wine smacks your preconceptions right in the face. Even in the 2020 vintage, there's still that slight spritz, but here it fits the concept perfectly – because the taste buds are sending nothing but 'woodruff' signals to the brain. Brilliant acidity that goes on forever. You don't have to like this wine. But if you do, you have to give it a magnificent 93 points.
