The Ovilos 2017 from Ktima Biblia Chora (PGI Pangeon) is unmistakably Cabernet Sauvignon and stands out with very rounded tannins and tremendous drive on the palate. Tasted as part of a single-varietal Cabernet Sauvignon lineup – where it was aged in the same cellar as the Trilogia 2017 from Ktima Dio Ipsi – it becomes clear that both wines have their own distinct character. A magnificent 93 points – though in fairness, it should be said that some participants in the tasting found the wine perhaps a touch too polished. If you take the fill level of the bottles at the end of the evening as your yardstick, other wines came out ahead. That may also have to do with the fruit sweetness, which makes this wine better suited to cold winter evenings than to a late-October barbecue at over 20°C.
