Château Fombrauge – Château Fombrauge 2005

AOC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
77% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon
Bordeaux, France
Red | dry
14.5%

The 2005 Château Fombrauge from Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, a blend of 77% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon at 14.5% alcohol. The 2005 vintage was generally excellent across Bordeaux, though the right bank initially suffered from quite heavy tannins due to warm weather. However, none of that is noticeable any more. It's a smooth wine that drinks well and is still astonishingly fresh. But it's a bit on the boring side. The 90-point average from Wine-Searcher seems a bit optimistic.
