Château Fombrauge – Château Fombrauge 1928
AOC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon
Bordeaux, France
Red | dry
12.5%
The 1928 Château Fombrauge from Saint-Émilion showed clear age with a brownish color, as one would expect from a wine approaching its centenary. On the nose, however, this was the most complex wine of the tasting – there was the expected balsamic vinegar character, but also a lot more going on beneath the surface. An incredible vintage, and hard to believe this wine truly comes from 1928. Château Fombrauge, now a Grand Cru Classé since 2012, has deep historical roots in Saint-Émilion, and tasting a bottle from nearly a hundred years ago is a vivid reminder of the longevity these wines can achieve.
