Cavino — Atelier Cabernet Sauvignon 1997
PGI Achaia
Cabernet Sauvignon
Peloponnese, Greece
Red | dry
12%
The red Atelier from Cavino, vintage 1997, was tasted as part of a single-varietal Cabernet Sauvignon tasting at the end of October 2022. The white counterpart made from the Moschofilero grape had still managed a solid 76 points in the 1994 vintage, and colour-wise the 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon initially gave cause for hope too. On the nose, an impression of rum pot at a sensationally low 12% alcohol certainly whets the appetite. On the palate, a hefty dose of oak braces itself against decline, even slightly better integrated than in the Cuvée Porfyros from Domaine Spiropoulos, which had been tasted only two years younger. However: the fruit has already largely dissipated, leaving noticeable gaps especially on the finish. By now, unfortunately, only 69 points.
