Ktima Erithrou Rodou's very first vintage ever (more on the winery can be read here). And this wine really has something to it. The winemakers boldly commit fully to the floral end of the Malagousia spectrum – and are rewarded for it. The wine has crystal-clear elderflower fruit, alongside refreshing lychee notes on the palate too and wonderful acidity. The whole thing is rounded off by a lovely creaminess, traceable to the five months of fine lees ageing. That's a few leagues above what Müller-Thurgau can do! Anyone who likes aromatic wines should absolutely try this Malagousia at least once.
Produced with a yield of just 26.5 hl/ha and made exclusively from free-run must, the debut 2020 vintage came to market with 3000 bottles and is now also available in Germany from Ralph Urban. You can order it via this link (in German) – and thereby support our website through a commission.

We're clearly giving this wine outstanding 17 points. That it's only won silver medals since release presumably has to be explained by the fact that judges are overwhelmed by this still internationally little-known style of Malagousia. (There, people are presumably quite taken with the fruity direction set by the variety's discoverer, Gerovassiliou. Compare this article on that.) A more qualified assessment can be found, for instance, here.
