Giannikos Winery — Windmill Malagouzia 2019
PGI Peloponnes
100% Malagousia
Peloponnese, Greece
White | dry
Organic
If you drink this wine alongside the still tone-setting, very fruity offering from Ktima Gerovassiliou, you can hardly believe at first that you're looking at a Malagousia in the glass. On the nose, the wine initially comes across as very restrained, almost closed. Only very slowly does it release its aromas. When it does, they place it firmly in the herbal spectrum of Malagousia wines, though without any intrusive ethereal notes — it leans more towards dry meadow. A meadow in Greece, mind you, in the height of summer, with a touch of thyme and mountain tea crumbling under the sun. Malagousia can indeed do stubble field. That said, there's a hint of apricot on the palate after all. But what really makes itself felt there are mineral notes and grapefruit. A very fine food companion that has undoubtedly earned its 90 points and the distinction of being rated 'outstanding'.
