Vigno – Tequilemu Vineyard Field Blend 2018
Carignan
Maule Valley, Chile
Red | dry
13%
This Chilean cult wine from the Maule Valley was tasted in a direct comparison with the Greek ΡΟΕΣ Carignan Vieilles Vignes 2018 from Ktima Oinotropai – a Carignan awarded 99 Robert Parker points, sourced from a 0.75-hectare parcel. The Vigno 2018 is an incredibly cool, almost cold-shouldered wine. Just 13% alcohol, bracing acidity, and hefty tannins make it anything but approachable – which also explains why non-professional critics on Cellartracker sometimes struggle with it. But it's not shut down; it's more in-your-face challenging. Give the wine more time, though, and it reveals its true greatness. Because despite all that austerity, its enormous juiciness ultimately keeps you coming back for more, hinting at ever more subtle layers. A magnificent 94 points.
