Vignamaggio – Cabernet Franc di Vignamaggio 2004

The Cabernet Franc di Vignamaggio 2004, a 100% Cabernet Franc from the historic Vignamaggio estate in Chianti Classico, was used here as a comparison wine – partly because it had received 90 points from Wine Enthusiast back in 2008. Vignamaggio describes this bottling as the first in their territorial single-variety range, with the Cabernet Franc vines dating back to the 1960s, rediscovered in the 1990s in the Solatìo vineyard. The 2004 is still in good shape after all these years, though today it probably deserves around 88 points rather than the 90 it once scored – a wine that has held up respectably but is no longer at its peak.
