Podere Le Ripi — Lupi e Sirene 2016

Podere Le Ripi's Lupi e Sirene Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2016, made from 100% Sangiovese, was chosen to accompany a roast goose — and what a pairing it turned out to be. The wonderful acidity cuts right through the richness of the meat, though this particular goose had relatively little fat, coming directly from my father-in-law — the kind of quality you simply can't buy. I love the delightful blend of raspberry fruitiness and a touch of tar-like smokiness. Definitely 95 points. Delicious. Still, part of me longs to get back to Greek wines after the holidays — the part that values excellent quality for money.
