Petralona Winery – Floga Gis 2011

Merlot

PGI Chalkidiki
100% Merlot
Macedonia, Greece
Red | dry
13.5% | Organic

Greek pharmacists who produce unfiltered Merlot have a certain history, and the Floga Gis 2011 from Petralona Winery – a 100% Merlot from PGI Chalkidiki – carries on that tradition with some remarkable elegance. It is not as dense and complex as the legendary Trilogia, the iconic Merlot now produced under Ktima Biblia Chora's Ktima Dio Ipsi label, but it holds its own as a refined, age-worthy red. Unfortunately, our bottle tasted slightly corky, which makes it irresponsible to write a full official tasting note. That said, even through the cork taint, the wine showed enough quality that it probably deserves around 89 points. At just 16€ available online, and given how rare it is to find Greek wine with ten years of age so easily accessible, this is one you should definitely buy and drink now.
