Panagiotopoulos Wines — Agiorgitiko Cube 2015
PGI Trifilia
100% Agiorgitiko
Peloponnese, Greece
Red | dry
13% | Organic
From the PGI Trifilia, part of PGI Messinia, comes this remarkable Agiorgitiko from Panagiotopoulos Wines – remarkable above all because even in its seventh year, the wine shows no signs of fading. It leans more toward a rustic than a filigree style, still very much marked by oak, but at the same time benefits greatly from coming in at just 13% alcohol. The nose is very spicy, reminiscent of curry plant. The primary fruit, especially on the finish, still comes across as very fresh. Given more time in the glass, the lasting impression is that of a chewed coffee bean. All of this adds up to an excellent 90 points. The fact that it costs just €6.80 at the winery – truly laughable for this level of quality – speaks to the enormous potential of the internationally much-neglected west coast of the Peloponnese.
