Olympia Land Estate – Malagousia 2020

PGI Ilia
100% Malagousia
Peloponnese, Greece
White | dry
13% | Organic

Olympia Land Estate is located in the PGI Ilia, a stone's throw from historic Olympia. The single-varietal Malagousia 2020 was tasted as part of a large comparative Malagousia tasting – as the missing link between the already familiar Assyrtiko 2020 and the estate's cuvée of Assyrtiko and Malagousia. Alcohol sits at 13%, and the structure is entirely shaped by a pronounced, somewhat aggressive acidity. Of the oily-watery emulsion you encounter in the Malagousia from Panagiotopoulos Wines, there is no trace here. Add to that a surprising sweetness, which creates a very appealing interplay. The nose is dominated by honey, and the finish is quite ripe, revealing quince above all. Overall, the house style dominates here over varietal-typical aromas. An excellent 89 points, which – especially in direct comparison with the previously discussed wines – are considered very well justified, despite a slight moment of hesitation.
