Olympia Land Estate — Arethousa 2017

The blind tasting of mainland Assyrtiko concluded with a dessert wine: the Arethousa 2017 from Olympia Land Estate. After the dry Assyrtiko 2020 from the same estate had just fallen short of a top score (90 points), this accomplished sweet wine made for an all the more pleasing finale.

The sun-dried grapes yield a wine where minerality holds its own despite all the sweetness. Citrus aromas dominate over the typical dried fruit character, lending the wine plenty of freshness even though the acidity naturally recedes somewhat into the background. A magnificent 93 points.
