Nestor Winery – Retsina NV

Savatiano and Retsina are almost synonymous, and too often equated with the idea of making cheap wine drinkable by adding pine resin – but the reputation is changing. The Retsina from Nestor Winery, made from 100% Savatiano, is not for the faint-hearted. The pine aromas here are intense and unapologetic, and some of us really loved that boldness. Compared to the more subtle Retsina from Mylonas Winery (89 points), this one leans fully into the resinous character. It lacks the extraordinary complexity of the Pithos Retsina from Andreou Winery (93 points), where mountain herb tea–soaked barrels add layers of herbal depth and even overripe strawberry notes, but the Nestor bottling delivers a convincing, full-throttle Retsina experience that earns a very good 87 points.
