Oenotria Land (Costa Lazaridi) — Cabernet Sauvignon - Agiorgitiko 2018

PGI Attika
90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Agiorgitiko
Attica, Greece
Red | dry
14.5% | Organic

This cuvée of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Agiorgitiko from Costas Lazaridis's second winery recently won the "best of show" award at Mundus Vini. While the results of that competition aren't always entirely convincing, in this case the recognition is well deserved. This is an outstanding wine.

The fruit on the nose is highly concentrated — primarily cherry with a touch of elderberry — and not as exuberant as the Amethystos from the same vintage. The oak, too — 18 months in French barrels, 50% new — presents itself differently here, manifesting as smoky notes, then shifting on the palate to coffee and leather. The tannin structure is well-balanced, the finish long. A Michel Rolland wine that will win over a great many people. And one you'd love to taste again with a few more years of age on it. 93 points.
