Oenogenesis – Deka X 2010

PGI Macedonia
50% Xinomavro, 50% Merlot
Macedonia, Greece
Red | dry
13.5%

The 2010 Deka X from Oenogenesis (50% Xinomavro, 50% Merlot) recently stirred controversy when wine critic Simos Georgopoulos harshly criticized a later vintage (2011). This wine, however, aged 24 months in oak, proved outstanding during a comprehensive Xinomavro exploration. While it shows a clearly oxidative profile, it does so with great finesse. The nose offers distinct raisin notes, while the palate presents a beautiful interplay of sweetness and acidity. Firm tannins leave room for herbal and aromatic complexity reminiscent of Economou's wines – the highest possible praise for a wine of this kind. 93 points.
