Nestor Winery — Fileri Rosé 2020

PGI Trifilia
100% Fileri
Peloponnese, Greece
Rosé | dry
12.5%

The Fileri Rosé 2020 from Nestor Winery was tasted as part of a Moschofilero rosé tasting. Nestor Winery is a former cooperative in the PGI Trifilia within PGI Messenia, now taken over by Spyros Lafazanis. The Fileri grape is closely related to Moschofilero; who descends from whom, or whether different stages of ripeness simply cause different skin coloration, remains entirely unresolved. The vineyards sit at a mere 300 to 400 meters elevation on the west coast of the Peloponnese. The 2020 rosé is still quite effervescent. A no-frills wine that leans more toward the fruity end of the spectrum than the floral. Blood orange stands out above all. Considerable fruit sweetness at a well-balanced 12.5% alcohol makes this wine very approachable for a broad audience. An uncomplicated wine that deserves a very good 84 points. The 2019 vintage was available in Germany for €9.99.
