Nestor Winery – Avarinó Red 2019
PGI Peloponnese
40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Grenache Rouge, 30% Agiorgitiko
Peloponnese, Greece

The red Avarinó 2019 from Nestor Winery (PGI Peloponnese) was tasted as part of a tasting of Agiorgitiko cuvées. Agiorgitiko contributes 30%, alongside 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Grenache Rouge. At 12%, the wine is very light and clearly intended for early drinking. On the nose, however, the 2019 still shows very fruity character, and the cherry on the palate is really appealing. There's no reason to give less than a very good 85 points. In Germany, you can pick up the current vintage for under €5. This wine doesn't exactly have a long tradition yet – in fact, some bottles of the 2019 were even still printed with the outdated label, so instead of Agiorgitiko, the bottle still says Merlot.
