Nestor Winery – Avarinó 2020
PGI Peloponnese
70% Trebbiano, 20% Moschofilero, 10% Roditis
Peloponnese, Greece
White | dry
As part of a tasting of Roditis wines and Roditis cuvées, the white Avarinó 2020 from Nestor Winery was also included, since both Moschofilero and Roditis feature as blending partners here, even though Trebbiano dominates at 70%. The wine carries the PGI Peloponnese designation. Positioned in a similar price bracket to the Vodias 2020 from KatrVin, it's worth noting positively that this entry-level wine built on Trebbiano actually dares to show a mineral component. However, that minerality manifests less as a pleasant structural grittiness and more – at least when freshly opened – as a mineral aftertaste that some may find off-putting. In the contest between floral and fruity aromas, exotic fruit wins out here, especially banana, which will appeal to many. And the wine doesn't give up even after several days in the fridge. For a wine that can be had in Germany for under €5, you really can't ask for more, and so a very good 82 points it is.
