Mylonas Winery – Malagousia 2021

The Malagousia 2021 from Mylonas Winery, PGI Attica, sat undisputedly at the upper end of the 90-point wines in an extensive Malagousia comparative tasting. The 12.5% alcohol is unobtrusive. Structurally, what stands out is that the acidity is underpinned by a touch of spritz, and there are mineral nuances that come across as thoroughly positive throughout. Aromatically, this wine is extremely exciting: quite expressive on the nose and clearly in the floral spectrum, though these floral notes carry absolutely nothing heavy about them. What's wild is how fruit suddenly dominates on the palate. This combination of florals on the nose and fruit on the palate appeals enormously to some, who would rate the wine even higher. Others, in turn, might find it a touch too challenging. But there's no question that we're looking at a minimum of an excellent 90+ points here.
