Muses Winery — 9 2023

Muses Winery 9 2023, a PGI Central Greece white blending 50% Assyrtiko, 30% Trebbiano, and 20% Sauvignon Blanc. To be honest, Trebbiano is one of my least favorite varieties since it brings so little to a blend and often just ensures quantity of production. Why not stick to Assyrtiko and Sauvignon Blanc, as has long been common in blends from the PGI Drama region? But here the Trebbiano makes a showing with some flowery aromas, especially once the wine gets warmer. And I guess that makes the wine very broadly appealing. It is well-structured thanks to the Assyrtiko, and the Sauvignon Blanc contributes some hints of exotic fruit. A good way to start the evening — at 88 points, it's a solid, crowd-pleasing white.
