Mikra Thira — Terrasea 2021
PDO Santorini
100% Assyrtiko
Cyclades, Greece
White | dry
13.8%
The Terrasea 2021 from Mikra Thira is the first wine made entirely from grape material sourced on Thirasia – the smaller piece of the Santorini caldera. This exclusivity is reflected in the price. 60% of the wine was vinified in stainless steel tanks and the remaining 40% in second and third-use French oak barrels, each spending four months on the lees at a fermentation temperature between 16°C and 18°C. Alcohol comes in at 13.8%.
The nose is reminiscent of rather late-harvested Assyrtikos from the Greek mainland, with pronounced stone fruit and honey notes – comparable, for instance, to the impressive 2019 Assyrtiko from Olympia Land Estate, which packs a hefty 15% alcohol. It's refreshing when Santorini wines deviate a little from the purist path and allow fruit to come through. True to that first impression, the wine also starts oily on the palate, then unfolds a symphony of complex aromas that linger for a long time. 94 points – remarkable what has been achieved on Thirasia in such a short time. This wine was also awarded at the 50 Great Greek Wines. Available in Germany through Wein am Limit.
