Mikra Thira — Nykteri 2021

The Nykteri 2021 from Mikra Thira is produced from the three late-harvested grape varieties Assyrtiko, Aidani, and Athiri. The co-fermentation process is completed in French oak, where the wine matures for four months before spending another year on the bottle in the estate's cellar. Alcohol comes in at a still quite moderate 13.5%.

The nose is subtler than the single-varietal Santorini Assyrtiko from the same estate, but on the palate this wine demands your full attention. An initial bitterness gives way over time to a supple complexity. It only truly reveals its potential with aeration — and it promises considerably more in the years ahead. It wouldn't be surprising if it has overtaken the regular Santorini in two or three years, sitting at 95 points. Currently 92+ points. Interestingly, the 50 Great Greek Wines list confirms this wine's potential — the 2020 vintage was awarded there. Available in Germany through Wein am Limit.
