Mega Spileo — Assyrtiko 2021

Qualitatively in a similar league to the Assyrtiko from Nemea Winery, yet stylistically quite different — that's how the Assyrtiko 2021 from Mega Spileo (PGI Achaia) presented itself in a blind tasting of mainland Assyrtiko. On the nose, the wine is far more restrained. The finish reveals some floral and honeyed character. In between, the wine's structure dominates, even though ethereal aromas play a somewhat diffuse role. The acidity is crisp, but doesn't shine as positively as it could, because the tannins are a touch too abrasive, noticeably slowing down the drinking flow. Still a very good 87 points.
