Lacules Estate — Syrah 2021

PGI Messinien
100% Syrah
Peloponnese, Greece
Red | dry
14.5%

Undoubtedly one of the best Syrah wines of Greece. The Lacules Estate Syrah 2021 from Messinia in the Peloponnese has also been rated 19/20 points by Weingabriel, and indeed, what a complex nose, dense tannins, and wonderful balance of sweetness and acidity. I had already fallen in love with the 2019 vintage when I tasted it last year, awarding it 94 points. This 2021 vintage is indeed even better and deserves 96 points, though I think you can drink it now. In my personal opinion, the 2018 vintage has even greater aging potential — I rated it 98+ points last year. Unfortunately I didn't have both the 2018 and 2021 vintages side by side, so take this with a grain of salt, but I clearly remember the Lacules Estate Syrah 2018 as virtually indestructible. The 2021 vintage, by contrast, has more finesse. Sage and kumquat are interwoven in an interesting way, and there is a lot to figure out. But I'd still bet that the 2018 vintage is closer to reaching a perfect score of 100 points in a couple of years. A magnificent wine that earns 96 points.
