Kyperounda Winery – Petritis 2020

Tasted as part of a Cypriot white wine line-up, the Petritis 2020 from Kyperounda Winery is a Xynisteri from the PGI Limassol that demonstrates just how well this grape variety responds to different winemaking approaches and how much potential it holds. The wine arrives on the palate with generous fruit sweetness before the oak gradually works its way to the foreground. It's multi-layered and playful at the same time, without any of that getting in the way of drinkability. Grown at high altitude, the wine comes in at a very well-suited 13% alcohol. On the nose, the wine is a touch shy – otherwise it would be truly great. As it stands, though, we still arrive at an excellent 91 points.
