Ktima Voyatzi — Tsapournakos 2013
PGI Velventos
Cabernet Franc (100%)
Macedonia, Greece
Red | dry
13.5% | Organic
When I was writing this post, I remembered buying a bottle of Tsapournakos from Ktima Voyatzi in a Greek supermarket some years ago. The bottle stated that the grape variety was a Greek relative of Cabernet Franc. As I now discovered, however, according to Yiannis Karakasis, DNA analysis has shown that it is actually Cabernet Franc itself. The 2013 wine has now reached perfect drinking maturity. On the nose, aromas of blackberry and blackcurrant still take center stage, joined by heavy incense notes. On the palate, the age shows more clearly, yet remains in perfect balance with the fruit. A magnificent wine that deserves 93 points.
