Ktima Toplou – 101 Portes Syrah 2019

The 101 Portes 2019 from Toplou Winery (PGI Lasithi), made from Syrah, was tasted as part of a larger tasting of Greek Syrah reds. It's a touch more intense than many other entry-level wines. On the nose, the aromatics are slightly barnyard-like, but still very subtle and well within attractive territory. The first sip immediately delivers a solid dose of spice, with blueberry only emerging on the finish. That the alcohol sits at just 13% comes as a surprise. A wine that may not be perfectly balanced, but is nonetheless very attractive thanks to its complexity – fully deserving of a very good 89 points.
