Domaine Paliomylos — Satyr 2021
Assyrtiko
PGI Ilia
100% Assyrtiko
Peloponnese, Greece
White | dry
12%
Tasted as part of a non-Santorini Assyrtiko lineup — a format that has produced some remarkable discoveries in the past, including the Areti White 2019 from Ktima Biblia Chora (PGI Pangeon) and the Assyrtiko 2019 from Olympia Winery (PGI Ilia), both scoring 95 points. The Satyr 2021 from Ktima Paliomilos, made from 100% Assyrtiko grapes sourced from the area of ancient Elis in the Peloponnese (PGI Ilia), has a citrusy nose and a peach-dominated palate. It features an interesting aromatic profile, a notably lower alcohol content (12%) for a Peloponnesian Assyrtiko, and a herbaceous background with a hint of saffron. The wine has potential but might benefit from more body. At 87 points, it's a very good effort that shows what this corner of the Peloponnese can do with the variety.
