Ktima Kalogri — Kalos Agros 2016
PGI Arkadien
80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Moschofilero
Peloponnese, Greece
Rosé | dry
Organic
As part of a tasting focused on Moschofilero rosé wines, the Kalos Agros 2016 from Ktima Kalogri was also included – a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Moschofilero. On the winery's website it's listed as a red wine, though by German classification standards it would be considered a blend of red and white grape varieties (i.e. blue and white grapes). Ktima Kalogri has been following a philosophy of minimal intervention in winemaking since the 1980s. The label states a shelf life of up to four years. And indeed, the wine already pours a rather rusty brown in the glass. On the nose, with all that dried fruit, you'd almost think you were smelling a mature sweet wine. Of the floral aromas one might expect from the Moschofilero, there's barely a trace. But then the first sip practically takes your breath away – because on the palate, this wine is anything but tired, presenting itself instead as a crisp white wine. Of the Cabernet Sauvignon, you taste simply nothing at all anymore. A crazy combination. Perhaps too crazy for some – but it's undeniably unique. An excellent 92 points are also warranted because the wine went down brilliantly even with guests who are normally far less adventurous in their tastes. Definitely a wine in the category of one you should have tried at least once.
