Ktima Kalogri – Dialogues 2019

PGI Arcadia
100% Moschofilero
Peloponnese, Greece
Rosé | dry
12% | Organic

As part of a tasting of Moschofilero rosé wines, the Dialogues 2019 from Ktima Kalogri was tasted – a wine from PDO Mantineia, the heartland of the Moschofilero grape. The producers have been in business since the 1980s with just 3 hectares and have steadfastly pursued their philosophy of minimal intervention in winemaking ever since. Apart from the wine's origin, there is absolutely nothing conventional here. The must stays on the skins for 10 days and then ferments with wild yeasts for 40 days in stainless steel. After that, it matures for 12 months in old wood. At bottling, only very little sulfur is added (40 mg/l), and there is no filtration at all. The label states only the PGI Arcadia. On the nose, the wine presents the typical flower meadow character, yet remains racy. On the palate, it captivates above all with a fascinating structure and a very long finish, in which the oak keeps reappearing, very well integrated. If you're the kind of person who normally only drinks rosé for refreshment and otherwise pushes it aside claiming you'd rather have something serious in your glass – this wine will make you very happy indeed. The bottle empties itself and gives plenty of reason to linger over every sip. A wonderful wine that fully deserves an outstanding 93 points.

Tasted: March 2022
