Ktima Gerovassiliou — Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Fumé

PGI Epanomi
100% Sauvignon Blanc
Macedonia, Greece
White | dry

During a tasting of Greek Sauvignon Blancs, the oak-aged Sauvignon Blanc from Ktima Gerovassiliou demonstrated exactly why this estate enjoys international renown. It hits you straight away with expressive exotic fruit on the nose — ripe nectarines above all leap out. Then there's a generous dose of lemon basil that keeps the whole thing from drifting into kitsch territory. Green notes are present accordingly, along with a touch of liquorice, but beautifully integrated into the fruit. On the palate, a very subtle brioche hint from the oak rounds everything off nicely. Those who fundamentally dislike the variety won't be converted here either, of course — they'll object that this much exoticism doesn't really deserve this much elegance. A magnificent 93 points. The wine is available for around €18.95.
