Ktima Gerovassiliou — Domaine Gerovassiliou Red 2019

14.5%
The Ktima Gerovassiliou Red 2019 (PGI Epanomi, 14.5% vol) is the estate's house wine -- and here dominated by Syrah. Limnio, alongside Merlot, each contributes only a smaller share of around 20%. But -- what a wonderful, filigree nose. Delicate yet at the same time very densely layered with a wide variety of fruits, including some strawberry and subtle aromas of dried rosehip blossoms. But everything still very fresh. On the palate, the soft Merlot caresses you at first, before the Syrah takes over and shapes the wine to a considerable extent. 91+ points -- I am quite impressed by this vintage and am certain that in five years it will be a superbly matured wine at 93 points. What also gives me confidence is the fact that I tasted the 2008 vintage (back then still a cuvee exclusively of Merlot and Syrah) with 15 years of age, and it still clearly presented itself at 90 points -- for an entry-level wine of this kind, that is already remarkable.
