Ktima Anaxagora — Maratheftiko 2019

Tasted as part of a Cypriot red wine tasting, the single-varietal Maratheftiko 2019 from Ktima Anaxagora impressed with rich dark fruit on the nose, predominantly blackberry. However, there was also a rather pungent alcohol note despite only 13.5% — lending a slightly medicinal impression. Oak shows itself through fairly subtle smoky notes. On the palate, a pleasantly dense but, at the time of tasting (2021), still somewhat unresolved tannin dominates. On the positive side, amarena cherry aromatics weave in nicely. Overall, this shapes up as a fairly well-balanced wine, with acidity that is perfectly adequate. The wine deserves an excellent 90 points.
