KatrVin – Vodias 2020
Roditis, Muscat de Hamburg, Chardonnay
Peloponnese, Greece
White | dry
As part of a tasting of Roditis wines and Roditis-based blends aimed at exploring the potential of this often underestimated grape variety, the white Vodias 2020 from KatrVin was also tasted. Here, the red grape variety Muscat de Hamburg enters the picture, contributing floral notes to the Roditis – an interesting approach compared to the Feggaropetra 2020 from Andreou Winery, which uses Moschofilero as its floral blending partner instead. A touch of Chardonnay then makes this affordable entry-level wine more elegant than you'd expect. Serve it too cold, though, and all you're left with is lychee aromatics. At the right temperature, however, this is a surprisingly complex wine for its price bracket – and deservedly earns a very good 86 points, which translates to very good value for money at well under €10 retail.
