Evampelos Ghi – Merlot & Cabernet Franc 2019

The Evampelos Ghi estate also produces a Bordeaux blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The winery has already impressed us with its Assyrtiko, which ranks among the best Assyrtiko wines from the Greek mainland and is aged in oak in a very appealing and innovative way. For this wine, too, they rely on a combination of French and American oak. Indeed, the latter makes itself known on both the nose and palate with typical coconut notes. Speculoos cookies come to mind. On the palate, however, the tannins were still too dominant when tasted last year. This wine, too, should be cellared for a few more years. In time, more delicate apricot and marzipan notes will be easier to detect. At this point, the wine already merits an excellent 89 points, but there is still room for improvement.
