Domaine Paterianakis – Melissinos 2022

The rosé Melissinos 2022 from Domaine Paterianakis is a Kotsifali-Syrah blend that works exceptionally well as a rosé. The deep color speaks to the saignée method. A wealth of berries on the nose, with a touch of tomato as well – for a moment, you'd think you were smelling a Xinomavro. On the palate, this wine is a powerhouse, with an enormous amount of grip – and that despite the Kotsifali! Acidity is on the lower side, the apparent fruit sweetness cranked up quite high, yet never remotely candy-like. A real discovery – and it's the oldest label in the estate's portfolio. 93 points.
