Domaine Hatzimichalis — Sauvignon Blanc Kryovrisi 2021

Kryovrisi Vineyard

PGI Atalanti
100% Sauvignon Blanc
Central Greece, Greece
White | dry
13.5%

As part of a tasting of Greek Sauvignon Blancs that also included a head-to-head comparison with the legendary Baron de L from Domaine de Ladoucette in Pouilly-Fumé, the Kryovrisi 2021 from Domaine Hatzimichalis impressed across the board. The wine hails from the PGI Atalanti and carries the single vineyard designation, underscoring the growing awareness among Greek producers of site-specific character. Domaine Hatzimichalis is one of those pioneering estates that entered the wine world from outside and enriched Greek viticulture with innovative ideas — not least through the production of single-varietal wines.

The Kryovrisi presents itself as a superbly balanced wine with an appealing nose and wonderful interplay. Particularly pleasing: at 13.5% alcohol, it stays perfectly poised — a quality that is by no means a given with Greek wines, where alcohol levels often become the Achilles' heel. Another positive is the absence of any disruptive CO2 interfering with the drinking flow, which is exactly right for a wine made for immediate enjoyment. At around 10 euros, this leaves nothing to be desired — a very satisfying, excellent 92 points.
