In a tasting of Greek wines made from Bordeaux varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot), it was surprisingly a rosé that came out on top: the Amethystos Rosé 2021 from Domaine Costa Lazaridi, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Domaine Costa Lazaridi has presented some very good wines in the past, though the white and red versions of the Amethystos series were only partially convincing. The Amethystos Rosé 2021, on the other hand, showed itself at its very best. Looked at from every angle, there's really nothing to fault here. The nose is fruity but not kitschy. The sweetness is delicious but never cloying. The acidity carries the wine without pushing itself to the foreground. And then the finish lingers for a surprisingly long time. For an entry-level wine at its price point, a truly recommendable and excellent 90 points.
